Superfood Profiles: Blueberries

Feeling a little blue? Time to boost up your diet with these amazing little berries! These berries may seem very familiar, but they’re doing a lot more for your body that you think, and here in this post, we’ll highlight some of the best things they do for you!

Vitamin C – One serving of blueberries (about one cup) contains ¼ of your vitamin C intake for the day! Vitamin C is most famously good for your immune system, but also promotes growth, tissue development, and bodily healing. In addition, blueberries are a great source of vitamins K and B6, and countless antioxidants!

Fiber – Fiber is an important part of a healthy diet, as it makes you feel fuller faster and longer! Blueberries are packed with dietary fiber, which helps keep your cholesterol at healthy levels and improves your heart health.

Minerals – In addition to all kinds of vitamins and minerals, blueberries are a great source of minerals, including: iron, zinc, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, and calcium. All these minerals help build bone density, which makes your bones sturdier, stronger, and helps prevent breakage.

Anti-diabetes/Anti-cancer properties – The high fiber in blueberries helps naturally lower the body’s blood sugar levels. Many of the compounds found in the antioxidants blueberries carry are extremely beneficial in preventing and treating cancer. The pterostilbene and ellagic acid found in blueberries have been found to be very beneficial in treating various forms of cancer, including colon and liver.
